After being held in police custody for weeks, the Kogi State High Court in Lokoja has granted bail, valued at N10million to the embattled lawmaker representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye.
Justice Nasiru Ajanah, the judge presiding over the case granted Senator Melaye bail in his ruling on the application due to health reasons.
Senator Melaye was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained after he jumped out of moving police van enroute Kogi state to be arraigned in court.
Senator Melaye was arrested in April in Abuja and is being charged with allegedly arming criminals and organizing a disruptive political rally that ended with at least, one death.
The police also confirmed the arrest of suspects who alleged that the senator had provided arms and financial support to them.
Senator Melaye has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, claiming that he was being targeted for his criticism of the Kogi state governor.
